But is the price tag exorbitant or just delicious overkill Jason Evangelho takes 10,000 worth. Air quality alerts were in effect in 14 states on Tuesday. Falcon Northwests Mach V is one formidable custom-built PC. Smoke from the fires is blanketing the East and Midwest, causing concerns for residents' health. are grappling with poor air quality as Canadian wildfires continue to burn. Firefighters are concerned that the combination of dry vegetation and the heat wave could spark dangerous wildfires, posing further threats to the state. The heat wave is shifting California's trajectory for fire season, which started slowly due to a record snowpack. Crews have been tirelessly navigating challenging terrain to contain the Lodoga Fire in Northern California, believed to have been sparked by lightning. "I cry all the time, I like yell at the heat to like go away," said Cristina Hill, an unhoused woman.Īmid the heat, California firefighters are battling brush fires around the clock. The 1000-watt power supply in this machine should certainly serve, even for the next power-thirsty generation.Īs with every Falcon Northwest system, the Tiki is built entirely from off-the-shelf components aside from its chassis, so there's really not much else to say here aside from "good job.At least 12 deaths in Maricopa County this year have been attributed to extreme heat, with the most vulnerable, including those without housing, being the hardest hit. The company also tells us that most user upgrades are graphics card upgrades. It's not a deal-breaker, but it could be an annoyance if you have a dusty house or shedding pets.Īs far as user upgrades go, Falcon Northwest will support and warranty the system "until it has been modified past the point where would be capable of supporting it." The company tells us that that generally means replacing the motherboard. Ultimately the very same open-ness in the chassis makes it easy to slip the nozzle of a can of air through the gaps and blow out the fans, so keep an eye on things should you opt for one of these tiny titans. We asked Falcon about this, and they replied that there simply wasn't room in the chassis for filters, or at least not ones that could be cleaned easily. There's no two ways about it-any debris or dust that gets near the case is going right inside, especially if the system is loaded and the fans are going. You could install them yourself, even, although we're not sure where the SATA power cables ended up in our build.Īnother nitpick that we have about the Tiki is the lack of filtering on the system intakes. Underneath that label is the bracket that would hold a single 3.5" HDD or a pair of 2.5" SSDs. Every Falcon Northwest machine is custom-built and personalized for the purchaser. Over on the left, you can see the Falcon Northwest badge with the system serial number and the owner's name on it-"Hot Hardware", in this case. That's a shame, because reattaching the side of the Tiki with those hoses in the way with such tight quarters can be nerve wracking.Īs you'd expect for a machine barely 4" wide, the Tiki is cramped inside, but not extremely so. This reviewer prefers air coolers, and inquired with Falcon Northwest as to whether such an option was available, but there was not. Getting into the Tiki couldn't be easier, although getting it closed can be a considerable challenge mostly due to the Asetek liquid cooler. Opening up the side of the case simply requires undoing two thumbscrews in the back and lifting it off. Let's take a look at the full specifications before we dive in:įalcon Northwest Tiki (2022): Specifications & Features Naturally, this latest leading-edge Tiki is brand-new and bursting at the seams with powerful, up-to-date hardware, like AMD's 3D V-Cache equipped Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Haswell sure doesn't feel like 9 years ago, does it? However, the last Tiki that we reviewed was equipped with an Intel Haswell processor and a first-generation GeForce GTX Titan GPU. This isn't the first Falcon Northwest system that HotHardware has reviewed, of course it's not even the first Tiki. A Falcon Northwest machine, right here in our hot little hands. Back then, we all built our own machines because we were poor, but we all wanted that Falcon logo as a badge of status.Īs such, it's not with a small amount of reverence that I went into this review. Whether it was the high specs of the machines, sleek designs, or their unique, classy advertising, Falcon Northwest established itself as the Bugatti of the build-to-order computer world. Yet among PC gamers in the 1990s, none of those names held quite the same prestige as Falcon Northwest. Sure, you had your Dells, and your Compaqs, and your smaller vendors too, like ZEOS, Quantex, ALR, and the fledgling Alienware. Back in the mid-90s, I recall sitting around with friends at the school lunch table poring over glossy magazines like PC Gamer and the long-defunct PC Accelerator, as well as the immense, phone-book-like Computer Shopper. Comparatively, FedEx would call me ahead to say I owed X dollars & I would call back & pay in advance of the delivery. You don't get a call or email notice from DHL about the charges until they show up on your doorstep and ask for the payment on the spot with your plastic. Took about a week to arrive & fees were reasonable (no brokerage fee). I recently used DHL Express Worldwide (air service) offered by MoFi (but not by MD yet unfortunately) which is their air service and it was reasonable imho. Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada: UPS - Canada International shipping to Canada, brokerage fees with UPS, FedEx, and DHL I just approved a shipping quote from MD to use UPS Worldwide Expedited.įor Canadians, here is a decent link I found which explains import shipping costs (you're lucky in the US with free shipping and no taxes, etc!): If you live near the border, there might be cross border services to reduce the cost, but with gas at over $2/litre you need to weigh the expense of the drive & your time/hassles. So you pay more for air but save on the brokerage fees. If it ships by air, they waive the brokerage fees, but there could still be other smaller nuisance fees. Anything that ships to Canada by ground (UPS standard or FedEx ground) will be subject to extra brokerage fees. I had been using FedEx international economy which, after the shipping cost, was only a $10 fee + HST. I hoped the new QC process would be better but maybe they just need more time and they will catch these things in the future.Ĭlick to expand.Indeed, MD has switched from FedEx to UPS, not sure why. I bought direct from MoFi so hopefully I can get sleeves and maybe a new second disc. Sound quality isn’t the normal One Step but it’s pretty good and the music is killer. I agree the vocal is dry and distant at times but overall not an issue for me. If you don’t have a copy I think this is quite good, gets going at times and the vinyl was vey quiet except where there are blemishes. Side four, first song has issues that line up with the visual blemish, some kid of film where the disc is different colors. My second disc, side three was excellent as well. This was the first time I heard “Tears In Heaven” after becoming a parent, quite moving. As the show progresses I feel the quality gets better. I had to turn the dial up significantly to achieve the usual sound level. I’m thinking this has to do with the original recoding, but I’m speculating. The sound quality is not great or to say consistent with other One Steps I own. Others may disagree with my analysis here, but I am just trying to be transparent with my thoughts as unbiased as possible.īoth discs are dished warped, lots of blemishes on the discs, both outer sleeves are split.ĭisc one played awesome despite the visual flaws. The instruments do have some pop and sizzle from time to time, but nothing consistent soundstage-wise to really create a good experience. It’s almost a barrier to connecting with the music it sounds so detached from the band. If one were to compare the dynamics, balance, vocal clarity, overall richness of this to say that of Nils Lofgrens Acoustic Live that Analogue Productions released the results are night and day.Ĭlaptons vocals feel buried and distant. If anything the One Step really demonstrates those weaknesses. I know this is a live recording and so the quality is usually not as pristine as a studio-recording but there are exceptional examples out there of live recordings that sound phenomenal and this just isn’t one of them. If only that was my complaint, but the disappointment continues once you start playing the LPs. I am not sure if the printing process is different or why there is such a unappealing quality to this but it is. I know album artwork isn’t exactly what you pay for with these One Steps, but these just don’t hit the mark for me. You can also see how bad the contrast is on the inner sleeves comparatively. I think the original artwork was almost like a screen capture from the MTV episode and so clarity was never really great, but wow does it really show here. I know the picture might be hard to see, but the cover art on the box versus the inner sleeves is very different and both are pretty drab. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I am very disappointed with MoFis efforts on this release. First review from one guy on his one step, (from FB) “Rich Minion” epitomizes the greed and power-lust Gru himself displays throughout Despicable Me while still fitting the carefree, fun-loving, yet borderline-maniacal nature of the adorable Minions. How unexpected it is and how it can break barriers is very big.’” I really believe in him, and I think that there is a crossover here. I think he’s the perfect fit for this.’ They looked at me like, ‘After what you just prefaced that with, I don’t think we can do something like that.’ But I, ‘I’m gonna send you guys some of his stuff. There’s this artist, his name is Yeat, and all of his catalog, up until this point, is about things that don’t really match your narrative, like drugs, money, things like that. “And are on a Zoom call, and I was like, ‘Guys, wait! I got an idea and it’s bizarre. “We had person ready to go and were about to lock it in,” Bennett says of the process. But during a Zoom meeting with Illumination, Bennett came up with the idea to include Portland, Oregon-bred rapper Yeat, who was already on fire with his hypercharging viral hit “Sorry Bout That.” The gamble paid off, resulting in the TikTok-spawning viral video “ Rich Minion ,” produced by Bennett’s longtime friend and Chicago producer Lotto f.k.a. Initially, he had several other artists in mind to create a theme for the trailer - ones more in line with the “PG” rating of Minions, the prequel and fifth installment of the Despicable Me franchise. Leading up to its release earlier this month, Bennett decided to take a risk. But the pandemic caused The Rise of Gru to be pushed back a full year, despite already being finished. Two years ago, Illumination reached out to Bennett to handle the trailer and exclusive merchandise for the film, initially set to be released on July 4, 2021. Now, on the heels of the Illumination film Minions: The Rise of Gru, the 26-year-old can add another accomplishment to his list: helping to create a viral hit. Diddy, shooting a new video with Kid Cudi, Denzel Curry, and JID, and drawing more than 90,000 people to Chicago’s West Side for the 2022 Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash, a festival he co-founded. Cole Bennett spent the first half of this year living out some of his biggest dreams: meeting and hanging out with one of his heroes, Love f.k.a. That’s why we’re starting with easy things to paint. So before we even get started, I want to encourage you not to do that. I’m pretty hard on myself when I start a new craft or hobby, and I bet a lot of you are too. I remember sitting back from my first canvas and thinking, “that doesn’t like the doll at all.” I was 8. I remember one of the first things I painted, and I was excited: my Cabbage Patch Kid named Sarah. No matter what the subject is, just make the background look like an old painted wall to give the finished painting a vintage flavor. When I was in second grade, I started taking painting classes (thank you mom!). For your kitchen, it can be graphic pictures of a popular triad of fork-spoon-knife or a simple coffee cup. This sample is a great way to decorate an entryway with a fast and easy big wall art decor project. Take a designer-style approach to an acrylic canvas with one dominant color and a single object. Just combine all major color groups into larger blocks. Of course, you don’t have to repeat each and every detail here. Colors are also not as bright and distinct as in the sample above.įollowing a brighter color scheme with a larger subject size is much easier for a beginner. By looking at some of his paintings one may notice rather complex brush strokes patterns with pretty intricate silhouettes of sunflowers grouped together. Right away, you’d want to ask: “Why not Van Gogh?” Well, indeed Vincent Van Gogh is very famous for his paintings of sunflowers but here is a slight problem that may confuse some beginners. A rare and majestic jaguar, along with her cubs, a Howler Monkey, and a hummingbird, watch as man encroaches upon their land. It depicts the wildlife of Costa Rica which is currently under the threat of deforestation. This example shows The Edge of Paradise painting which won first place in the Art for Trees National Art Contest. Controlling the brush is only tricky in the beginning. It looks challenging but learning to read and write was challenging as well, right? In reality, the idea to paint over a drawing is not much harder than to color pages with markers. Take the “coloring pages” approach to painting – the idea here is to transfer a drawing onto canvas and then color it with acrylic paints Try to limit yourself to a few colors, especially in the beginning. Try Acrylic Pouring using white, yellow ochre, and black to give a modern look to your Abstract PaintingĪs it happens too often, the most common beginners’ painting mistake is dumping all available colors on canvas. How can you try to achieve the same effect? Pick a canvas, a set of basic acrylic paints, a wide brush (or palette knife), and voila – you’ll create your own beautiful landscape painting. Painting images of nature doesn’t require great drawing skills and can be one of the fast and fun things you can do with a blank canvas. One of the first oil or acrylic easy DIY canvas painting ideas for beginners on canvas would be painting Colorful Landscapes or trees using acrylic paints. Painting colorful trees on canvas is always a good choice for beginners Without copying the best artworks with a deep understanding of how exactly it was accomplished it will be very hard to start creating your own masterpieces. If you are just starting to play the piano and learning notes would you call yourself a performing musician? What is the best way for beginners to learn about painting on canvas?īesides art supplies and tools, you will need to learn a variety of painting techniques and go through guided tutorials. Why not call yourself an artist right away? Well, many people do so but imagine doing the same thing in the music field. Why do we call painting on canvas a craft?īecause while beginners are learning how they can technically execute their painting ideas on canvas by using different tools and techniques they actually are learning the craft side of this trade. So, how do you find these canvas painting ideas?Ĭanvas easy painting for beginners usually starts with the least complicated subject and step-by-step instructions – the same way as many other crafts. For many artists, the hardest part is not how to do canvas painting but getting actual ideas on what to paint on canvas. You don’t need to do any of the official forms, at best just do the two UWorld practice tests. The NBME offers its standard free practice exam questions and a few “forms” for practice exams. UWorld sells a discrete biostatistics module for $25 but if you do the question bank questions it should suffice. Make sure to finish ALL of the UWorld biostatistics and read the summary portion below. I did significantly worse (~10%) on my first-and-only pass than either UWorld for Step 1 or Step 2 CK, and with the averages being the way they are, you will likely be doing just as badly, so don’t worry. My notes are unfortunately more than 40 pages – but in addition to common medical knowledge with one pass-through it should be sufficient if you’re short on time. There are more than a few questions that will make you roll your eyes or tear your hair out but aim to finish at least half of UWorld on random and you should be set. There’s not much more to add here since everyone knows the questions along with explanations are unparalleled. UWorld is the gold standard for Step 1, Step 2 CK, and of course Step 3. Master the Boards, AMBOSS, others are just not necessary. It is a poor return-on-time investment especially if you’re in something like Surgery. The deck is well built but realistically, unless you take Step 3 at the end of the year, you will never come close to finishing the deck. This deck has more than 8000 cards with UWorld tables, images, and vignettes built in, along with Master the Boards and other resources that don’t matter. After realizing that the three months “off” we had would be the last until retirement, I decided to just…not do anything. Since the rest of the medical field unofficially treats Step 3 as a joke, there are only a few resources for Step 3 and as expected you’ll only need at maximum two: UWorld for Step 3 and if you require numerical feedback like I do, CCS Cases.ĭuring the initial stages of COVID-19 I thought I would be productive and slam through a UWorld Step 3 Anki deck, be set to take it in the first month or two of residency while also looking great on the floors. At this stage in our education and especially with most residencies not caring, scoring well on Step 3 has no impact except for those who are pursing fellowships, where one would assume research and connections play a larger role in obtaining an interview and ultimately a position. The NBME’s decision to make Step 1 Pass/Fail while continuing to numerically score Step 3 astounded most people. Another moment of silence for our Pathology colleagues for whom this test is completely useless. The only thing you can really control is your initial approach for cases and knowledge base for the MCQ portions.Ī moment of silence for our Surgery colleagues, who are pushed to the limit each and every week yet still have to find the time and energy to study for and take this exam. People mention accidentally killing one to multiple patients during the cases portion and still pass. No one really knows how the cases are graded. You have to pass both days and both MCQ and cases in order to pass Step 3. Step 3 is a two-day exam: the first day is all multiple choice questions, while the second day is split into two halves: multiple choice questions and interactive cases. The fucking chud literally exploited his passion for drawing and his fanboy-ism for the 1st game to make shit to him for FREE. In this case, he literally drew almost 80% of the stuff in this game(someone else did the animations), for FREE, not even a gift of gold or food. He's not Nina Paley level of Copyleft, but hearing him draw designs for free is not surprising.īut there is a difference between small things like software mascots and drawing almost everything for a game. The guy has his hands in all kinds of Free as in Freedom stuff. Pic related probably explains why he's been drawing more humans recently. (as with these projects: ) Also it sounds kind of fucking weird that that the dev would pay everyone else except tyson. I think he would have made a bigger stink about it right about now or quit the project all together. I don't think he's getting scammed by chud dev scrolling through tyson's twitter. As for the human drawings, maybe he's broadening horizons a bit. Hopefully he's more aware of scamfags, though. It's clearly a passion of his, and I love his style. I doubt Tyson would just quit drawing because of something like that. A piece of title art or some key illustrations would've been one thing, but drawing most of the graphics? Tyson should get a % of the sales, at the very least! Doesn't matter if it's an 'indie' game, artists should be paid. Tyson is one hell of an artist, and the whole 'but you get exposure!!!1' shit sure as hell wasn't something he needed.Īnd this game had Kickstarter money left (supposedly, since the shit Strife didn't put in the first game was going to be put in this one). Now that friend is so fucked up health wise from the chemical changes and such that he can barely do anything due to lack of energy and such while feeling miserable, since WAWA state lets people just get the chemicals for the most part over the counter or otherwise without doing a regular sit down and talk with a doc to asses things. Same friend said they became trans because "women have more rights" and now constantly having surgeries to remove their balls and slice up their genitals in general.Īnother pal I used to have that went the trans route had their 90+ year old grandpa dying and kept fishing for trans compliments from him instead of really just being there with the old guy til he croaked. I just had an "argument" with one of my friends of 20+ years because I didn't use trans pronouns for Chris-Chan last month when he escaped from jail and now that friend refuses to talk to me anymore. Given the release date was like a month later out of nowhere, it feels more like it was pushed out just to have something generating revenue compared to how much hype and such it generated in the past with the demo and all the big names attached to it in the early trailers.īecause the ones I've known in person are fucking horrible people and try to use their trensetting rights as some platform to talk shit to others while also soapboxing. It's not even on consoles yet until next year, so we're basically the beta testers at this point for a game that's been held hostage for years due to a mentally ill dev unable to understand valid criticism of their product and twisting it as "demoralizing" and personal attacks. When you choose to make a new screen recording, you’ll be prompted with a dialog box for capture settings such source and audio options. Screen recording is a key feature of ScreenFlow, and the program excels at capturing video. Using a blank new document means you’ll need to gather the material yourself. If you’ve created a screen recording, it will be automatically added to the document you’re working on. The center section is the canvas it displays your active media. The right-hand panel has all of your editing tools such as video adjustments, audio, and annotations, while the bottom panel is the timeline. However, the main areas of the program remain the same. The first time you launch the app, it will include the welcome message shown above over the canvas area. No matter what you choose you’ll eventually end up here: Alternatively, you can create a new blank document or open one you’re already working on. You can choose “New Recording” to create new media by capturing your screen and/or microphone. There are three options to get going with ScreenFlow. It was a refreshing change from crowded interfaces and overlapping buttons. Once things are up and running, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the design, which fits well with the rest of my Mac. When you first download ScreenFlow, the app will ask to be moved to your applications folder. But the video should give you an idea of the features available, from the basic screen recording to text, callouts, annotations, and overlapping video or picture-in-picture. I then created this video to demonstrate the main features of ScreenFlow.Īs you can see, the video is watermarked with “DEMO MODE” due to the fact that I used the trial version of ScreenFlow. In order to get started with the app, I watched several tutorial videos from their resource section. You can read more about that in the “Reasons Behind My Review Ratings” section below. I also contacted their technical team to evaluate how supportive they were. Note: the app offers a full-functionally free trial, meaning I wasn’t given the program for free or sponsored by their parent company Telestream.Īfter experimenting with the program, I created a sample video which you can see in the section below. That’s why I use these reviews to provide clear and unbiased information on programs you may not have experience with.ĭuring the past several days, I’ve tested almost every feature of ScreenFlow to see if it works as the developer claims. Like you, my budget is limited and I don’t want to spend it on something that doesn’t offer much value. I know the joy of finding great free software and the disappointment of not finding out if a paid program is worth it. My name is Nicole Pav, and I’ve been trying out new technology since I first put my hands on a computer. Why Trust Me for This ScreenFlow Review. No royalty-free resources beyond pre-installed transitions. What I Don’t Like: Lack of effect presets, arrows and callouts. Good quality of relevant tools for annotation. Also, it is worth noting that ScreenFlow is a Mac-only product, if you’re on a PC you probably want to try Camtasia - the best alternative for ScreenFlow though Camtasia is more expensive. However, if you’re just a casual user who is looking for a tool to record desktop/mobile screen activities and only has basic needs for editing, you could turn to free or cheaper alternatives. YouTubers or bloggers can quickly cut together a professional video that engages their audiences. Marketing professionals can create an explainer video or tutorial for their products. With ScreenFlow, teachers can use it to screencast simple how-to videos that will help enhance classroom engagement. The app is best suited for those who want to make good-looking videos for educational or marketing purposes. With a layered timeline and plenty of features you would be hard-pressed to find in a standard video editor, you’ll definitely get the job done. It captures your actions on desktop screen, and then you can edit the recordings by trimming and rearranging the content as well as by adding callouts, annotations, and motion. ScreenFlow is a quality screencasting and video editing app for Mac. |
